About
Opened in 2022, this Cajun-Creole eatery in North Oak Cliff promptly won an Eater Award for “Restaurant of the Year and was named a 2023 James Beard “Best New Restaurants” Finalist. It hasn’t rested on its laurels though, still landing spots on such prestigious lists as Infatuation’s “Best in Dallas” and Eater’s “38 Essential Restaurants.” Chef/Owner Michelle Carpenter grew up with slow-cooked gumbo, fish fries, and crawfish boils. Her Japanese mother’s meticulous treatment of ingredients for home-cooked Japanese meals set Chef Carpenter up for the brilliant success of her restaurant Zen Sushi in the Bishop Arts. At Beatrice, diners delight in dishes like beef bourguignon, red bean cassoulet with house andouille sausage, Mammaw’s fried chicken, and gulf shrimp creole with stone-ground grits. Leave room too for luscious desserts like Vietnamese iced coffee cake and praline bread pudding with praline ice cream. “Magical,” says the Dallas Observer. “Every dish and experience is better than the last.”
