Day 1: 5-Course Nouveau Mexican Tasting Series

Opened in late 2023, this contemporary Mexican eatery has been gathering accolades by the armload, including appearances on Washington Post’s “26 Best New Restaurants” List (’24) and “10 Best Around Dupont Circle” List, as well as Washingtonian’s “100 Best Restaurants” List (’25). Amparo Fondita has also earned coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand status. Chef Christian Irabién, born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, is an artist, activist, and long-time resident of the DC area. His culinary journey led him through many prestigious kitchens, including Muchas Gracias and the renowned Oyamel by Chef Jose Andres. At Amparo Fondita, he delights diners with brilliant renditions of the classic tacos, quesadillas, ceviche, pozole, chile relleno, and more. “The food is gorgeous…swoon-worthy…this fresh face manages the neat trick of marrying sophistication with neighborly charm,” raved Washington Post restaurant reviewer Tom Sietsema in his 2024 List of “6 Favorite Places to Eat in DC.” Need we say more? About the Host:

Christian Irabién

Chef/Owner

Born in Chihuahua, Mexico and raised both there and the US, Chef Christian Irabién is an artist, activist, and long-time resident of the DC area. Prior to launching Amparo, he was the founder and Executive Chef of Muchas Gracias!, a Mexican-inspired pop-up that earned him the prestigious 2020 "Keepers of the American Dream" Award from the National Immigration Forum, as well as a "Rising Culinary Star" Award in 2022 from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington.

Courses #1, #4, & #5 will be individually plated; courses #2 & #3 will be served family-style. This menu will be Mushroom, Nut, and Shellfish Free. For the list of restrictions Chef is accommodating, scroll to the bottom of this page.

Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
Does this restaurant allow BYOB?
No. This restaurant is a non-BYO establishment. Outside alcohol will not be permitted at this event.
What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
Due to the large-format nature of our events, restaurants are not able to accommodate all dietary restrictions/food allergies or make any menu adjustments based on food preferences (e.g distaste for specific ingredients/flavor profiles).
