Anomaly
Day 2: 5-Course Post-Modern Gastronomy Tasting Series
Opened in January of 2023 in Lower Pacific Heights, this innovative eatery has appeared on Town and Country’s List of “10 to Visit in SF” and Thrillist’s “Best SF Restaurants” list. Chef/Owner Mike Lanham, whom SF Mag named to its List of “Top 8 Chefs to Watch”, is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who earned his stripes cooking at Michelin-Starred Spruce, at Oakland’s 2-Michelin-Starred Commis, and at Bird Dog in Palo Alto, where he was a sous chef. A few years ago, he broke his back during a climbing accident and decided while recovering that he would build his own restaurant and focus on treating his staff with respect, which he saw as an anomaly in the industry. At Anomaly—get it?—he is turning out dishes like shrimp with grits, jalapeño, and caviar; sirloin with caramelized beets and grilled maitake mushrooms; and black cod with mushroom skin. Crazy good desserts, too, like basil sorbet with blackberry and rhubarb and whipped corn with jalapeño and strawberries. “Truly a unique fine dining experience,” raves Forbes. Naturally, we can’t wait to visit here and chat with Chef Lanham about his truly inventive food ideas.
About the Host:
Mike Lanham
Chef/Owner
A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, Chef Mike Lanham initially began cooking to fuel his competitive cycling practice but unexpectedly found an enduring passion. After interning at Auberge du Soleil and Solage’s SolBar, he continued honing his craft at Michelin-Starred Spruce, 2-Michelin-Starred Commis, and Bird Dog. He has been named one of SF Mag's "8 Chefs to Watch."
