Aya Sushi
5-Course Inventive Omakase Tasting Event
Opened just this past September, this Bellaire eatery is already making quite a name for itself. Head Chef Yoshi Katsuyama, a Tokyo native who previously worked at Uchi, Aqui, and Soto Houston, is turning out sushi so good that it’s earned Aya Sushi a place on Eater’s 2023 list of “21 Standout Sushi Restaurants in Houston” and Eater’s list of “Hottest New Restaurants in Houston.” Chef Katsuyama, whose shocking pink aprons and wild sense of humor have established him as quite the entertainer, is sourcing fish directly from Japan and flying it in daily. He and his team are using these and other fresh ingredients to prepare dishes such as kanpaccio, a thinly-sliced amberjack made with green apple, seasonal caviar, and shoyu vinegar, and hamachili, with yellowtail, ponzu, garlic, and bird’s eye chili. There is even a maki named for Bellaire’s zip code, 77401, which features tuna, salmon, avocado and squid ink-dyed miso vinegar and is fried in a tempura batter. On the hot side, diners can find dishes like miso sea bass and hot stone wagyu. “Sublime,” raves Texas Monthly, and really, what more is there to say?
