Comfort Kitchen
Day 4: 5-Course Ode to the African Diaspora Tasting Series
Opened in January of 2023 in the Upham’s Corner district of Dorchester, this outstanding eatery celebrating the cuisine of the African diaspora has been showered with accolades. Consider its placement on New York Times’ List of “50 Best US Restaurants” and Boston Magazine’s “Top 50 Restaurants” List, its being named Boston Globe’s “Restaurant of the Year,” and its 2024 nomination for a James Beard “Best New Restaurant” Award. After a series of highly successful pop-ups around the city, Comfort Kitchen moved into the historic Upham's Corner Comfort Station —built in 1912 to support the expanding street car system and completely restored and renovated by Historic Boston Inc. Here, diners sup on dishes like jerk jackfruit sliders, brown butter seared okra with masala spiced yogurt, banana leaf roasted chicken, beef short rib with coffee cacao braise, yuca fries, and greens, and jerk roasted duck. Save room for desserts like mango ice cream with peanut brittle and cacao and blue corn cake. “Destination-worthy,” raves Boston Magazine, while New York Times says, “Each dish still manages to feel coherent and captivating — like a story unfolding in several parts.” We can’t wait to visit!
