Ernesto's
Day 1: 5-Course Bounty of the Basque Region Tasting Series
Opened in January of 2020, this Basque-inspired eatery on the Lower East Side made GQ’s List of “Best New Restaurants” and New York Times’s “Top 10 New in the US” and “Top 50 in the US” Lists. Chef/Owner Ryan Bartlow has worked at 3-Michelin-Starred Akelarre in San Sebastian, Spain, as well as 3-Michelin-Starred Alinea in Chicago and NYC's own Frenchette. Now, at Ernesto’s, he is turning out memorable dishes, from starters like ham croquettes, to entradas like tartaletas de txangurro (crab tarts), to mains like bacalao en salsa verde (salt cod in green sauce), magret de pato (duck breast with pomp puree, port, and foie sauce), and arroz meloso de gamba roja (soft bomba rice with shrimp and chanterelles). Be sure to leave room as well for desserts like the classic Basque cheesecake and flan. “The mood here…is as romantic as the food,” raves New Yorker, while Bon Appetit’s reviewer says, “I’ve found my new go-to-spot for all things Spanish.” We can’t wait to visit Ernesto’s and to hear all about the glories of the Basque region from Chef Bartlow. See you there!
