DAY 1: 5-Course Memories of Saigon Tasting Series
This recently opened (June 2021) eatery in the heart of East Passyunk jumped quickly to the top of the pack with “Best New Restaurant” accolades from both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Eater. Chef Thanh Nguyen, who grew up in Saigon, where her parents owned a seafood market, brings to life soulful Vietnamese street food, like banana leaf-wrapped dumplings, open-faced rice cakes, fish platters with rice papers to wrap, savory crepes, and wok-charred filet mignon, to mention just a few. With Gabriella’s Vietnam, named for her daughter, Chef Nguyen, named a “Rising Star Chef” by restaurant reviewer Craig Laban, is committed to bringing the most authentic Vietnamese cooking to Philadelphia. As a matter of fact, a lot of her ingredients, seasonings, and cookware are shipped over from Vietnam just so that she can get the right taste and texture in each dish. We will be taking over Gabriella’s Vietnam for our event and are looking forward to hearing Chef Nguyen’s personal story and getting her insights into the food of her homeland.

Chef/Owner Thanh Nguyen grew up in Saigon, Vietnam. She moved to the US for college, and got involved in the culinary world alongside her husband. She went on to start multiple restaurants, including Banh Mi Bar & Bistro, Gabby’s Banh Mi Shop, and Melody’s Vietnam. Then during the pandemic, emboldened by the reception of her other ventures, she launched her most authentic restaurant yet: Gabriella’s Vietnam.

- Do I have to bring printed tickets to the event?
- No tickets are needed.
- What does the ticket price cover?
- The ticket price covers the full cost of the meal.
- Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
- Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
- Can I bring guests/non-members to this event?
- Yep! For this event, guest tickets are $75 + tax & tip, and you can bring up to 3 guests. Please note, guests are not allowed to attend unaccompanied by a member.
- What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
- Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to support@tastingcollective.com.
- What must I bring to the event?
- Please make sure to bring a government-issued photo ID. Additionally, please note this restaurant is BYOB, so make sure to bring your own wine and/or beer if you'd like!
- What COVID safety precautions will be taken at this event?
- At this event, we will be accommodating all requests for separate tables rather than communal seating. Additionally, all food will be served individually-plated rather than family-style. As per local guidelines, as well as the restaurant’s own policy, attendees will not be required to present proof of vaccination for entry.
- What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
- At this event, we will be able to accommodate all dietary restrictions and food allergies except for those with aversions to seafood or gluten. Please make sure to Update Your Dietary Restrictions within your Account Info before or after you purchase tickets, or email us at support@tastingcollective.com after you purchase tickets to let us know what your allergies/restrictions are.
