Himari
5-Course Japanese Meets Vietnamese Tasting Event
Opened in the spring of 2023, this Oak Forest eatery offers stellar Japanese cuisine with distinctive Vietnamese touches. Himari is the brainchild of Chef/Owner Tye Nguyễn, a native Wisconsinite who is an alum of the renowned Uchi and other notable Houston restaurants. In this smart space, with a black ceiling, polished concrete floors, and blond-wood chairs, diners experience one-of-a-kind dishes, like sakeviche (salmon with Texas peaches, Vietnamese coconut fish sauce, serrano peppers, onion, and smoked sea salt), The Smoke is Yours (Japanese scallops with Pink Lady apple and fried shallots, topped with grilled bacon and balsamic glaze), Surf ‘n Turf (deep-fried shrimp with avocado, topped with torched Angus NY strip and wasabi aioli), and all manner of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and more. Two of our favorite things in the world are Japanese and Vietnamese food, so putting them together is music to our ears. We are excited to visit here and chat with Chef Nguyễn about his food ideas and the agony and ecstasy of opening a new restaurant. See you there!
