Hungry Eyes
5-Course Avant-Americana Tasting Event
Opened this past April, this vibrant, retro-themed restaurant on Magazine Street recalls the halcyon days of the '80s. Hungry Eyes is an outgrowth of Turkey & The Wolf (which both Food & Wine and Bon Appetit named one of the decade’s standout restaurants) and, upon its arrival, it nabbed a spot on the New York Times’ 2023 List of “Best Restaurants in NOLA” and Esquire’s “Best New Restaurants in America.” Chef/Partner Philip Cenac, who cooked at Turkey & The Wolf, crafts a menu that is inspired by that era’s excess and daring culinary trends. Here, diners feast on dishes like grilled pastrami, veal sweetbreads with peanuts, puffed rice, tamarind, and bean sprouts, seafood and turmeric curry, and many more toothsome inventions. And it’s all served up in a back-to-the-future environment of black marble-topped tables, geometric furniture in primary colors, neon light fixtures, and vintage Jazz Fest posters. “One of the top places in the city,” says Infatuation, and one that we can’t wait to visit!
