Le Mari

Day 1: 5-Course Mediterranean Opulence Tasting Series

Opened this past June on Newbury Street, this Mediterranean-influenced bistro jumped right onto Eater’s Lists of “9 Restaurants to Keep on Your Radar” and “Best Openings in Boston.” Chef/Owner Leigh Whittaker began her culinary career as a line cook at Earth at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine. Inspired by the amazing female chefs in Boston, she moved to Fox & the Knife, working under James Beard Award-Winning Chef Karen Akunowicz. While at Fox, Chef Leigh was able to perfect her technique and develop her vision for Le Mari. Here, diners find dishes like scallop crudo with grilled pineapple and toasted coconut, duck confit with crispy rice, blood orange, and fennel, sea bass with tzatziki, fennel, and Granny Smith apple, and chicken Milanese with sugar snaps, harissa, and whipped goat cheese. It’s all served up in an utterly sophisticated environment that pleases the eye as much as the palate. “Everyone says you're going to be married to your restaurant,” says Chef Whittaker, so she named her creation “the husband” in French. We admire her commitment, and look forward to sampling her food!

Chef Leigh Whittaker left a long-time career in sales and marketing to attend the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. After stints at Earth at Hidden Pond and Fox & The Knife, she opened her own Mediterranean restaurant, Le Mari, in 2024.
