LUFU
5-Course Elevated Regional Indian Tasting Event
Opened this past July, this Indian eatery in CBD jumped right onto Resy’s “Hit List” and Eater’s List of “Hottest New Restaurants in New Orleans.” What’s more, it won the 2023 Eater Award for “Pop-Up Turned Restaurant of the Year.” LUFU stands for “Let Us Feed You,” the name given to Chef Sarthak Samantray’s pop-up specializing in street food from all over the Indian sub-continent. Chef Samantray, who graduated from the culinary program at Manipal University, met partner Aman Kora while working in the French Quarter. At LUFU, he is turning out a host of palate-pleasing dishes, from butter chicken wings to shrimp naanwich to brilliant versions of chaats, biryanis, pani poori and much more. (Leave room too for special desserts like chaimisu, a chai version of tiramisu, and qubani ka meetha, which is caramelized apricots with vanilla ice cream and pistachios.) Eater has praised LUFU's “gorgeous, arty atmosphere” along with the food, so, naturally, we are primed to visit, to sample Chef Samantray’s culinary artistry, and to hear more about why Indian cuisine is so very exceptional.
