Makan
5-Course Modern Malaysian Tasting Event
Makan, in Malay, means “to eat,” which is exactly what Executive Chef/Owner James Wozniuk intends for you to do, with considerable delight, at his Columbia Heights restaurant. Makan opened in March 2020 at the height of the pandemic but managed to build up quite a following. Michelin awarded it a Bib Gourmand while Eater named it to its 2022 list of “38 Essential Restaurants Around D.C.” Chef Wozniuk has a history of working at iconic Washington D.C. restaurants, including Lyon Hall, Brabo, and Marcel’s, and has traveled to Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Laos, and Taiwan. Most recently, he served as the opening chef of Maketto (The Rammys 2016 Restaurant of the Year) and then became co-Chef de Cuisine at Spoken English at the Line Hotel (RAMW’s The Rammy’s Best New Restaurant 2019, Semi-Finalist for the James Beard Foundation 2019.) Makan is his first solo venture, and the Washington Post raved about the pineapple curry, pork vindaloo, green mango salad, and more. We can’t wait to visit Makan and hear all about Malaysian cuisine from Chef Wozniuk.
