Mariposa

Day 2: 5-Course World-to-Table Tasting Series

Opened in 2021 in the Mint Museum in Uptown Charlotte, this distinctive eatery (whose name means “butterfly” in Spanish) is a multicultural culinaria in the space formerly occupied by the superb Halcyon. Inspired by the travels of restaurateur Jill Marcus, a partner in Halycon, Mariposa’s menu is in the hands of hosting Chef Kinsler Josaime, a Haitian/Bahamian chef who has worked at such prestigious spots as the 2-Michelin-Starred Jean-Georges, Michelin-Starred Nobu, La Petite Maison, and Fontainebleu. Here he is turning out “world-to-table” small dishes like elote corn fritters, saffron arancini, and ceviche aguachile, and large shareables like Moroccan chicken pie, gullah paella, and lamb shank. Outstanding desserts too, such as Basque cheesecake, chocolate tres leches cake, and flaming sticky toffee pudding. And it’s all served up in a beautiful, sophisticated setting with a minimal color scheme and art created by the muralist known as Owl. Mariposa is one of the buzziest spots in Queen City, named to Charlotte Magazine’s List of “25 Best New Restaurants” in 2022 and "50 Best Restaurants" in 2025, so, naturally, we’re very excited to visit here!
