Nowon

5-Course Inventive Korean Dinner Event

Ever been to pocha, otherwise known as a Korean-American drinking place? If not, now’s the time. Nowon, whose name derives from the residential district of Seoul where Chef Jae Lee hails from, opened in the East Village in late 2019. Here, Chef Lee, who immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eight and worked his way up in the restaurant world to become executive chef at 50 Bowery Hotel and its accompanying restaurant Rice & Gold, offers iconic Korean soul food like Spam egg rolls, honey butter tater tots, his celebrated kimchi burger, chopped cheese rice cakes, and a jjajang clam dish that is a testimony to his wok wizardry. The Gothamist raves that Chef Lee’s “expanded repertoire matches the glory that is his bar food.” You’ll also love Nowon’s awesome mural by downtown artist Razo that dominates the room. It portrays Lee's grandfather, a Marine General in the South Korean Navy who is reimagined as an ancient warrior and commander of a turtle ship. Throw in some pulsating Korean hip-hop music, and you will find that Nowon is a very special experience.
