Riel
5-Course Globally Inspired Tasting Event
A Montrose mainstay since 2017, this modern American eatery made Houston Chronicle’s “100 Best New Restaurants” List when it opened and now, going on eight years later, it’s on Eater’s “38 Essential Houston Restaurants of 2023” List. Executive Chef/Co-Owner Ryan Lachaine, a native of Manitoba, has been recognized nationally in publications like Esquire, Food & Wine, and Business Insider. He worked at such trailblazing Texas restaurants as Gravitas, Stella Sola, and Reef and was inducted into Eater’s 2013 class of Young Guns as the Chef de Cuisine at Underbelly. At Riel, the inspiration for his menu is pulled from the culinary landscape of Texas’ Gulf Coast, his Ukrainian heritage, and French-Canadian fare. That translates into memorable fare like truffle & caviar pierogies, maple pork loin, mushroom empanadas, corn gnocchi, and so much more. “One heck of a comfort food mashup,” says Condé Nast Traveler, while Houston Press says, Riel offers “an unexpectedly fresh take on familiar items that is both approachable and exciting.” We’re excited to visit, to meet Chef Lachaine, and to hear about his food ideas.
