DAY 2: 5-Course Authentic Sri Lankan Tasting Series

Many of us would be hard put to identify Sri Lanka on a map, let alone have any familiarity with its cuisine, but this island nation south of India boasts fantastic food. Executive Chef/Owner Melissa Fernando was born in Sri Lanka but she and her family fled to India to escape civil war when she was one. Eventually, she moved to Philadelphia, but she never left behind her love for her birth nation’s lamprais, curries, hoppers, kottu roti, short eats, and sambols. It is a fascinating cuisine indeed, with influences from the Dutch, the English, the Portuguese, and other cultures that traded with Sri Lanka. Sri’s Company started life as a pop-up—and Philly Eater soon named it the Best Pop-Up in its 2021 Eater Awards. Philadelphia Magazine followed suit, naming Sri’s Company to its list of “The Most Exciting New Restaurants in Philly Right Now.” We are excited to explore Chef Fernando’s take on Sri Lankan comfort food and street food and hear about her journey.

Born in Sri Lanka and raised in Chennai, India and here in Philadelphia, Melissa Fernando began cooking as a way to feel connected to her home and family. Eventually, she moved from cooking for friends to having pop-up Sri Lankan food all around Philadelphia to introduce more people to the tastes of her childhood.

All courses will be individually plated.

  1. Spiced Beef & Potato Croquettes

    with sweet and spicy sauce

  2. Pol Roti

    whole wheat flatbread mixed with shredded coconut, curry leaves and green chilies, and served with seeni sambol (sweet and spicy caramelized onion relish) and lunu miris (chili and onion paste)

  3. "Rice and Curry" Meal

    king mackerel steaks made with jaffna-style curry sauce and served with white rice with parippu (lentils cooked in turmeric and coconut milk) and kale mallung (kale salad with shredded coconut)

  4. Cashew Curry

    with turmeric, sri lankan spices, and coconut milk

  5. Duo of Desserts

    milk toffee and caramel pudding

Do I have to bring printed tickets to the event?
No tickets are needed.
What does the ticket price cover?
The ticket price covers the full cost of the meal.
Do guests need to be of a certain age to attend this event?
Yes. All attendees must be 21+ to gain entry.
Can I bring guests/non-members to this event?
Yep! For this event, guest tickets are $75 + tax & tip, and you can bring up to 3 guests. Please note, guests are not allowed to attend unaccompanied by a member.
What is the event ticket cancellation/refund policy?
Restaurants purchase the food for our events 14 days before the event date, at which point we are on the hook for the cost of your ticket. As such, we are not able to offer refunds (or credits towards future events) for any cancellation requests submitted within 14 days of the event date. We will, however, issue full refunds for all cancellation requests submitted at least 14 days before the event date. All cancellation requests must be submitted via email to [email protected].
What qualifies as valid proof of vaccination?
To verify that you are fully vaccinated, and gain entry to the event, you must present to our event lead any one of the following forms of proof: your original physical vaccination card, a clearly legible photo of your original vaccination card, or the CLEAR Health Pass App. Please note, you will be only be considered “fully vaccinated” if it has been at least 14 days since you've received either (a) a second shot of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, or (b) a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. What must I bring to the event?
Please make sure to bring proof of vaccination along with a government-issued photo ID. Additionally, please note this restaurant is BYOB, so make sure to bring your own wine and/or beer if you'd like!
What COVID safety precautions will be taken at this event?
As per this restaurant's policy, all attendees must be fully vaccinated and will be required to show proof of vaccination at the door to gain entry. We will also be accommodating all requests for separate tables rather than communal seating, and all food will be served individually plated.
What dietary restrictions/food allergies can be accommodated at this event?
At this event, we will be able to accommodate all dietary restrictions and food allergies except for those with aversions to raw onions. Please make sure to Update Your Dietary Restrictions within your Account Info before or after you purchase tickets, or email us at [email protected] after you purchase tickets to let us know what your allergies/restrictions are.
