Talat Market
Day 3: 5-Course Nouveau Thai Tasting Series
Opened in 2020, this Michelin Guide-recommended Thai eatery in Summerhill was named to Atlanta Magazine’s List of “Best New Restaurants of 2021” and this year appeared on Eater Atlanta’s List of “38 Essential Restaurants.” Chef/Owner Parnass Savang, a James Beard Award “Best Chef: Southeast” Finalist in 2024, was born in California and raised in Georgia by a Laotian father and a Thai-Chinese mother who owned and operated Danthai, a popular restaurant in Lawrenceville. Chef Savang graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and started Talat Market as a pop-up, refining his recipes. And what recipes they are! Consider dishes like geng jeut het (pork and shrimp sausage with glass noodles), green mango salad with dried squid, braised five-spice pork leg with pickled cooked mustard greens, chilies, and fresh garlic, and desserts such as khao tom mud or grilled banana sticky rice with coconut cream or vanilla ice cream sandwich made with sweet sticky rice. “Some of the best Thai in the South,” raves Goop, so we are eager to visit and chat with Chef Savang about his inventive food ideas.
