Tava
5-Course Inventive Indian Tasting Event
Opened this past March in the Central Business District, this Indian restaurant has already won a Star Chefs Rising Star Award and has vaulted onto Eater’s “Most Anticipated NOLA Restaurants of 2022” list and Condé Nast Traveler’s “26 Best Restaurants in NOLA” list. Chef/Owner Manish Patel, a first-generation American born and raised in the Crescent City, learned to cook from his father, Chef Dalpat Patel. In 2017, he launched Tava as a pop-up in dive bars and farmer’s markets, moved into the now-defunct Auction House Market in 2018 as an independent food stall, and gained quite a following for his dosas, thin pancakes stuffed with a variety of fillings and prepared on the tava, or grill. Chef Patel consciously avoids Indian restaurant staples such as butter chicken and biryani. Instead, diners savor the crispy, chewy dosas offered in variations like masala potatoes, lamb vindaloo, and garbanzo bean curry. Here, you can also discover amazing non-dosa dishes, like Chicken 65, a spicy chicken wing dish hugely popular across South India, and bhel puri, which are puffed rice, potatoes, red onions, and mint chutney. It’s Indian street food at its finest, all served up in a sleek and stylish setting. Can’t wait to visit!
