The Old School
6-Course Spring Harvest Dinner Event
There are many farm-to-table restaurants these days, but imagine one that is actually situated on a nine-acre farm, just a short drive from downtown. That is exactly what you will find at The Old School in Bells Bend, which is helmed by Chef Kristie Harris and which prides itself on local, hyper-seasonal, and sustainable sourcing, using only the freshest provisions. “To call the food fresh is an understatement,” says the Tennessean. There is much to love here: the 12-Hour Salad of butterhead lettuces, sorrel, violets, toasted almonds, and preserved lemon vinaigrette; the Fresh Farm Egg Pasta with sunflower seed pesto, sunflower sprouts, basil, slow egg, and cured yolks; Butter Braised Pastured Pork Chop, with fennel, orange glaze, herbs, and pickled green garlic. You may not find exactly those dishes when we take over the restaurant for our event, but you get the idea: sparklingly fresh food inventively prepared. And when you eat at The Old School, you also support The Old School Farm, whose primary mission is to provide employment to adults with intellectual disabilities. It’s a rare and wonderful place that you will want to discover!
