5-Course Korean Meets Southwestern Tasting Event
Opened in May of 2023, this Korean-American eatery in Bouldin Creek splashed onto the culinary scene upon opening, earning spots on Eater’s “Hottest in ATX” List and Bon Appetit’s nationwide “Most Exciting New Restaurants” List. The accolades have only kept coming, though, with Underdog now holding spots on 2024 Lists such as Eater's "Most Underrated Restaurants in Austin", Forbes' "9 Asian American Culinary Innovators", and NY Times' "25 Best Restaurants in Austin". Partners Claudia Lee and Richard Hargreave set out to create a place that serves food you want to eat with wine you want to drink. Executive Sous Chef Chris Conrey developed his chef skills at Daiboku by Sazan. At Underdog, he is turning out inventive small dishes like caviar stroopwafel bites, foie gras maki rolls, and mackerel croquettes, as well as mains like blue crab and trout roe on crispy rice, grilled mushroom rice bowl, roast pork belly ssam, and Underdog fried chicken. (That last dish, by the way, is one Austin Monthly calls the best of its kind in the city.) “Underdog, the stylish South First restaurant, wine bar, and bottle shop from a Momofuku vet, absolutely beams thanks to riveting Korean-inspired cuisine,” raves Infatuation. Suffice it to say, we are pumped to visit!

Originally from Berthoud, CO, Chef Chris Conrey worked in Phoenix for a time before settling in Austin. After honing his craft at Daiboku and Nixta Taqueria (under James Beard Award-Winning Chef Edgar Rico), he joined the Underdog team, and now serves as Executive Sous Chef.
